October 10, 1845 – United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland opens.

October 12, 1492 – Christopher Columbus discovers the New World.

October 13, 1775The United States' Continental Congress orders the establishment of the Continental Navy (later renamed the United States Navy).


October 14, 1908 – The Chicago Cubs defeat the Detroit Tigers, 2–0, clinching the World Series. It would be their last one to date.
